HWC student Jelon Williams was accepted into the Creative Boot Camp Chicago by The One Club that will be held at Columbia College March 19-23, 2014. The 4-day workshop introduces students to the creative process in the advertising industry and is sponsored by Leo Burnett. Thanks to Professor Donyel Williams for sharing this opportunity with her students and supporting them!
HWC students Jamaal Crowder, Alexis Zuniga, and Corey Willaby won “Outstanding Soloist” Awards at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival on February 23. These three music students are also recipients of the HWC Performance Scholarship. Former HWC student Dane Campell was accepted into Columbia College’s Creative Writing – Fiction (MFA) program and awarded a Graduate Merit Award, which covers full tuition for 45 credits or 2.5 years. Dane took Professor Larry Su’s Introduction to Literature class last summer and Professor Su wrote a recommendation in support of his application. https://hwcollege.wordpress.com/alumni-success/
Professor Michael Heathfield and his writing partner, Dr. Dana Fusco of CUNY, have been invited to submit their paper, “Modeling Democracy: Challenge and Change in Youth Voice”, for the thematic issue “Youth work, non-formal education and youth participation” of the Italian Journal of Sociology of Education (IJSE). If everything goes according to plan it should be out in January 2015!
Professor Les White, Social Science faculty member, will be giving a full day workshop on personality assessment, “Lifestyle Live!,” at the upcoming North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP) conference, which will be held in Chicago, May 22-25, 2014. https://hwcollege.wordpress.com/faculty/faculty-research-presentations-and-publications/

On March 24, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky will visit Harold Washington College to discuss immigration reform. She will speak from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. in Room 1115. Please attend and bring your classes!
The Transfer-Mation Leadership Conference held on Friday, February 28th had a total of 205 students attend. Ellen Goldberg is developing a website to post the presentations from all 40 workshops. This will allow for students to access the information presented in the breakout sessions that they were unable to attend. Be sure to send your presentation to Ellen if you haven’t yet.
